418 Energy Drink for Golfers

Every now and again I stumble across a product that takes me in a direction so far from the expected, that I totally lose track of where I was when I started.

Such is the case with 418 Energy, a relatively new (launched April 18th) energy drink targeted specifically for golfers.  I had know way of knowing I’d find a link to both the WWE and sexual potency.  Yeah, that’s right, golf, wrestling, and sex.

This is 2nd golf-specific energy drink I’ve come across (Swing Juice being the first), but for several reasons (sex, wresting, and conservative talk radio among them), 418 Energy is a bit more interesting.

Before I get into the juicy details, here’s a bit of the company line which I proudly pilfered from 418 Energy website (I cleaned up their spelling errors - guys you may want to fix that. And yes, for those of you wondering about it; I do see the irony in ME of all people, correcting someone else’s spelling errors - There’s a first time for everything, I guess).

So anyway, here’s the quote:

‘418′ is the first performance drink, a new breed of energy drink developed to improve your round of golf.  Did you know that reports indicate that upwards of 90% of golfers suffer from some form of inflammation, limiting their ability to play at their best?  418 Energy is a unique blend of natural anti-inflammatories, energy and cognitive ingredients to help you perform at your best.

Let’s face it, your golf equipment is only as good as you are and if  you’re not at your peak, you’re giving away strokes every round. Just take one 2-once shot of “For 18 Energy” before your round and you’ll experience 18 holes of consistent ENERGY, the FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT that comes with the pain relief of our natural anti-inflammatory ingredients and the improved FOCUS & CONCENTRATION to make the right decisions on the course.  All without the crash many other energy drinks experience.

The secret, I suppose, is in what the company calls its “tri-blend” of ingredients that work together to reduce joint pain and inflammation, improve concentration and focus, and increase energy. The list of ingredients can be found here. Quite frankly, I have no idea how they crammed all of that into a single two ounce shot, but I guess that’s why I’m not a scientist.

To an extent, 418 Energy is being billed is a replacement/alternative to the little bottle of pills (in my case Advil) that many of us rely on to not only get us through a round of golf, but to get us through the days following as well.  Here’s what company President, John Layfied, has to say about it:

“418 Energy is a much more than just an energy drink, it’s a performance drink but some call it magic in a bottle,” said John Layfield, President. ”Retailers are finding a great deal of success with it once the golfers try it, they come back for more.  We’ve seen golfers throw out their bottle of pain relief that they normally carry in their golf bag after trying 418.”

While I am intrigued by the idea of a magic bottle that can improve my golf game by increasing my energy and concentration, while eliminating muscle and joint pain, I have to tell you, I’m far from sold on a golf supplement that contains the same amount of caffeine as 2 cups of coffee. I’m really in no hurry to add the shakes and the jitters to my yips and shanks. For what it’s worth, the company says that 418 Energy (Energy for 18 holes - see what they did there?) won’t cause you to crash after the drink starts to wear off.

Even if you have no interest in a golf energy drink, you should definitely visit the Peak Performance section of the 418 Energy website, where TPI Certified Instructor, and golf cougar, Mindi Boysen provides fitness tips to help improve your game.

Through the end of the month, 418 Energy is offering a free 12 pack of their product to golf retailers (shipping not included.  The details are available here.

Rest assured, should I happen upon a bottle at one of my local golf courses, I’ll be sure to give it a try and provide a full review.  If you’re already tried 418 Energy, please leave a comment sharing your experience with our readers.

As for sex and wrestling…

For those of you wondering, yes, John Layfield is THAT John (Bradshaw) Layfield; former WWE Champion JBL.  You may have also seen him on one of his many appearances on Fox News Channel’s weekend business show, Bulls and Bears.

So you’ve got a golf energy drink, produced by a company owned by a former wrestling champion, who, by the way is also responsible for the Mamajuana sex drink.  Billed partly as “Sex in a Bottle”, Mamajuana offers better sex without a prescription.  The tagline on the website actually reads “Come to Mama for Great Sex”.

Most nights I’d settle for sex with a bottle, but what the hell, if I stumble across any Mamajuana in my travels, reader be warned, I’ll provide a full review of that as well.

Cheers Tony, I had no idea there was anything specific like that available for golf performace. To hear that there is an improvement available makes it even more exciting. Looking forward to your review of the performace of the drink and not the bottle ;) lol
