Qwowi Taste Test: Snapple Antioxidan WA+ER - Agave Melon

After far too long, I’ve arrived at the final review in the Snapple Antioxidant Water series.  I had planned to wrap this up a bit sooner, but I have one of those narrow, two-door refrigerators.  Man, when something gets pushed to the back it can disappear for weeks at a time.  I really need a new fridge.

The last bottle standing is the Agave Melon flavor.  I intentionally saved this flavor for last because, although I don’t like melon, I often like melon flavor.  Also, I should probably mention I love Tequila, and Tequila comes from the Blue Agave, so already it’s got that going for it.

As I’ve pointed out before, Snapple’s M.O. is to blend the common (melon) with the more exotic (Agave).  For the most part this has worked very well, but blending anything with Agave can be a bit of a risk, however; I love the ambition behind it almost as much as I love the result.

Snapple’s Agave Melon variety offers the “power to restore”, which is Snapple marketing mumbo-jumbo for it has “Vitamins A and E, plus a double dose of electrolytes assist in restoring the body after any endurance and strength activity.” Interestingly enough (at least to me), the Agave Melon is the only variety (at least for now), that offers this “power”.  Think of it as Tequila flavored Gatorade.  Or maybe don’t.

So I suppose the big question (at least it was for me), is how much, if at all, does Snapple Agave Melon antioxidant water actually taste like Tequila?  The truthful answer is, “a little bit”.  Now don’t get me wrong.  You’ll never mistake it for actual mess-you-up, Mexican Tequila, and for most of you, I’m guessing that’s a good thing.  There is, however; definitely a subtle, yet detectable similarity between the two.

As with some of the other Snapple flavors, the flavor of the ingredients isn’t so much blended as it is one after the other, although in this case, I think it’s agave, melon, and then agave again.  The melon flavor (like that of actual melon), is fairly muted.  It’s there though.  It’s light and tasty without being overly sweet (no Jolly Rancher effect here).  The Agave…yeah…that’s really good.

I’m glad I waited until the very end to drink the Agave Melon variety.  It’s by far my favorite of the lot, and the first that I might actively seek out.  The agave and melon flavors work very well together (again, I’m an agave guy anyway), and I hope this signals the beginning of an agave flavored trend.

Whether you’re a melon fan, an agave fan like me, or just like translucent purple beverages, the Agave Melon variety of Snapple’s Antioxidant Water is a can’t miss flavor that is,  far and away, the best of Snapple’s initial 8 antioxidant water flavors.
