uPro Golf GPS Revealed (with Photos)

While I didn’t set out to turn this week into uPro week here at Qwowi, it’s pretty clear there’s a lot of interest in what I’m pretty sure is going to be the coolest golf GPS unit to hit the market this year.  Admit it, you know you want one.  It’s ok though, you’re definitely not alone.

I’ve written fairly extensively about the uPRO already, so if you need to get caught up check out these previous posts:

We’ve come across a little bit more info over the last couple days that I thought was worth passing along.

First, check out these pics of the actual unit.  They’re not the highest of quality, but they’re what we have.  I’ll stop just short of calling them exclusive, but to the best of my knowledge, nobody else has them.  What you’re seeing is an Alpha unit.  You can expect the final product that arrives in stores later this month to be a little more refined, but the images should give you a pretty good idea what the uPro is all about.

As far as the underlying course mapping technology that makes the flyover (and other unique features of the uPro) possible is concerned; it’s all proprietary and no one is willing to share any of the details.  Blargh!  It’s kind of a bummer, but it’s understandable I suppose.

While it’s far from a done deal, I understand that the company is considering releasing a “lite” version of their mapping software, which would allow uPro owners to map their own courses.  I can’t emphasize this enough; this is not an absolute, so don’t go buying a uPro thinking you’ll be able to map your backyard chipping area or anything (don’t laugh, my neighbor actually has one).  It’s merely an idea that the company is kicking around, but I think it’s a good one.

A golf GPS is a great Idea and would be a great fathers day gift. I wish that they could make a ball that could be tracked, and then I would get it no questions asked.
