Qwowi Taste Test: Snapple Antioxoidant WA+ER - Dragonfruit
With 3 remaining varieties of Snapple’s new Antioxidant Water left unsampled, I reached in my fridge to pull out a bottle of Dragonfruit flavor for this latest review.
Normally this is the part of the review where I hit up Wikipedia so I can tell you all about a fruit that I otherwise have very little knowledge about. The problem is that Wikipedia is sort of all of the place with this one, so rather than cut and paste, I’ll just go a head and tell you that it’s called Dragonfruit because it looks like…well that picture over there.
The sour variety, Stenocereus, is the most commonly cultivated of the varies types of Pitaya (Dragonfruit). As you might expect from any of the primary ingredients in Antioxidant Water, Dragonfruit are high in vitamins (particularly vitamin C), rich in fiber, and minerals. And of course, are loaded with antioxidants.
According to Snapple, their Dragonfruit Water has the power to Awaken, which, once again, is Snapple’s clever way of letting you know that Dragonfruit Antioxidant water is loaded with Vitamins A, E and B, Caffeine, Guarana, Ginseng and Ribose, plus electrolytes; all of which will awaken your senses. Yeah…I know I just said that.
How many times does one really get to drink something fuscia in color? In that regard, drinking Snapple’s Dragonfruit water was a real treat. The taste itself made me feel young again. I don’t mean youthful, or full of life, I mean young, really, really young.
You know when a baby sees a grown up waving a spoon in front of his face he pretty much wants to eat whatever is on that spoon? The baby thinks he’s in for a real treat, but instead of delicous pears, some cruel bastard has loaded that spoon up with strained peas. What the hell does a baby know right? He can’t tell pears from peas, and he takes an a big heaping spoonful of what he thinks is a spoonful of sweet qwowiness, only to get slammed in pie hole with a puddle of pea flavored mud.
You know what happens next, right? The baby makes that surprised bitter face where his eyes bug out of his head, and his tongue peeks out from between his lips as his head shakes with displeasure. Yeah, you know what I’m talking about, and well…today I was that baby.
Now I’m not saying Dragonfruit flavored Snapple water tastes like strained peas. No…not at all. I’m guessing it tastes like Dragonfruit, which, as Wikipedia taught us, can be a little bit sour. I’ll attest to it’s power to awaken, because one decent sized sip and I was wide awake, and none to happy about the taste in my mouth. Flavor-wise, it tastes more dragon (at least what I think a dragon would taste like) than fruit.
In truth, yes, I’m being a bit hyperbolic. Snapple Dragonfruit water is a little bit on the sour side, but it’s not undrinkable. If anything I think I was mislead by the color. Fuscia…that should be sweet flavor, in so much as colors can have tastes. This is definitely more sour/bitter (maybe it should be green…I don’t know).
For me, it rates the lowest of the Snapple Antioxidant Water that I’ve tried so far (2 more to go). That said, I’ve read other reviews where people absolutely rave about the stuff. To each his own, as they say.
Fight it out amoungst yourselves, as my parting words are faint-hearted “It’s not for me”.
