The K-Cup Challenge: Timothy’s White Hot Chocolate
Our review of Timothy’s White Hot Chocolate is sponsored by Shoffee.com, who surprised me with a box of this brand new K-Cup variety.
Even though it’s been available for less than a couple of weeks, Timothy’s White Hot Chocolate is already garnering a lot of interest from what I’ll call “Keurig Enthusiasts”. It’s pretty exciting for me to be among the first to share my thoughts. So before we get started, I want to say a big thanks to Joe and the rest of the team at Shoffee.com for getting it to me so quickly, and so unexpectedly.
As you may recall from my review of Green Mountain’s Hot Chocolate K-Cups, I wasn’t blown away by my initial foray into hot cocoa beverages for the Keurig line of single-serve coffee brewers. It’s probably worth mentioning that I’m not generally a huge fan of white chocolate to begin with. I will eat the occasional Lindor White Chocolate Truffle, but usually only after the milk, dark, and extra dark varieties have all been devoured. The point of all this is Timothy’s White Hot Chocolate was basically digging in with two strikes against it.
Appearance and Aroma
Timothy’s White Hot Chocolate comes out of the brewer looking like a cup of steaming hot milk, or perhaps Elmer’s glue. It is white. There’s simply no other way to describe it.
The aroma is pure cocoa butter (which isn’t dissimilar from Coconut actually). There’s not a lot of complexity here. As you’d expect, a cup of white hot chocolate smells a whole lot like… wait for it… white chocolate. I’m no genius, but I’m guessing that was pretty much the plan. It’s by no means a subtle aroma. You know what you’re drinking, and so does everybody else in the room; not that it’s a bad thing.
The Taste
The taste is where my last K-Cup Hot Chocolate tasting experience went awry. Would the same thing happen with the Timothy’s White Hot Chocolate? I’ll spare you the suspense. The answer is a definitive HELL NO! Timothy’s White Hot Chocolate K-Cups (man, am I getting sick of typing that), are thick and creamy, and full of white chocolate flavor (at least when brewed at the 7.25 oz setting). Whatever the opposite of disappointed is (appointed doesn’t sound right), I’m totally that. I could not have been more pleasantly surprised by TWHCKC (I’m not typing it any more). It’s one tasty cup of white chocolate deliciosity (here at Qwowi, we’re not opposed to making up words).
To perhaps give you a more concrete frame of reference, the day after my TWHCKCs arrived, we had my buddy Jon and his wife over for dinner. Now Jon swears he’s never had a sip of coffee in his life, but that said, he considers himself a bit of a white hot chocolate aficionado. Based on his general enthusiasm for the beverage in general, I gather he’s sampled more than a few in his day.
So what does a hardcore white hot chocolate fanatic think of Timothy’s foray into the beverage? Even though neither he, nor his wife will ever sip so much as a drop of coffee, he’s actually considering dropping $100 a B40 Brewer exclusively for brewing Timothy’s White Hot Chocolate. Yeah…it’s that filthy good.
It appears Timothy’s is using a different technique than Green Mountain, but unlike the latter, there was no powder left behind in the K-cup after the brewing cycle was complete. Either they’re doing something different, or their mix is entirely more soluble than the Green Mountain offering.
I haven’t tried mixing Timothy’s White Hot Chocolate with a coffee blend yet, but you can bet I will.
Look, I can’t spell it out for you any more clearly. If you like hot chocolate, white chocolate, or especially white hot chocolate, and you own a Keurig single server coffee brewer, it’s really a no brainer. You simply must try Timothy’s White Hot Chocolate.
Before I wrap it up for the day, let me just say that the K-Cup Challenge is possible largely because of the support of my sponsors. If you’re getting anything at all out of these reviews, I hope you’ll be willing to support the companies that support me. It’s pretty much symbiosis in the internet age.
So with that said…
