Balance Certified Brings MOI to the Golf Shaft

Over the last couple of years, the majority of industry talk has centered around MOI (moment of inertia). Almost all club manufacturers have made reference to their product’s ability to resist twisting, and thereby provider straighter, more consistent results. While most of the focus has been on the clubhead itself, Balance Certified Golf is looking to the shaft as a means to improve performance and consistency.

Using technology developed in 1999, Balance Certified, which bills itself as “The Science of Golf”, has developed a Shaft Stabilizer system which they claim improves swing consistency by optimizing shaft MOI, resulting in more strikes on the sweet spot. The Balance Certified system works with the equipment you already have, so you won’t have to give a moment a thought to replacing every club in your bag, unless of course, that’s what you want to to do.

The genius of the Balance Certified system is it’s simplicity. Boring a small hole in the top of your grip allows you to insert the 3-piece mass kit into the golf shaft. Here’s how the 3 pieces work:

Working together, the 3 pieces stabilize the hands, increase shaft bending and hoop strength, and improve vibration feedback.

Actual user feedback suggests the Balance Certified System is particularly effective when installed in a putter where it improves tempo and allows the golfer to really feel the clubhead.

The three points that define the triangle move as one creating the optimum pendulum putting stroke. Positioning mass above the hands counter-balances the head of the putter. This balance gives golfers the ultimate feel while putting. The best balance requires the correct amount of weight in exactly the right places. Optimizing these weights to achieve the proper feel and balance is what balancing putters is all about.

4prsmall If you’re not quite ready to bore a hole in your grips to install the stabilizer kit, the company offers a removable Power Ring system which can easily be slipped on and off for fitting and testing.

Balance Certified Golf has a growing network of club fitters than can assist you with installing the product. Do-it-yourselfers can buy the kit at numerous retail outlets or at the company’s online store.

twoweightkit I’ll admit I’m curious about the product, especially for application within a putter. Prices are fairly reasonable. Complete kits, which include upper and lower hand weights, stabilizer bar, and of course installation tools, start at round $100. Individual weights run about $15.
