Full Description

Traditional, original, and flavorful. This is one of our most popular blends. It has a rich taste and medium acidity. We think you’ll find this blend to be balanced and smooth.

The Aroma

At the risk of sounding unimaginative and uninspiring, all I can really say is that it smells like a cup of coffee. There is nothing distinct or unpleasant about the aroma. While I’m sure more sophisticated coffee drinkers would probably talk about citrus notes, and floral undertones, I’m not feeling any of that. It’s barely 7:00 AM. I’m smelling coffee, and now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to drink it.

Drinking It Black

As I’ll no doubt say numerous times as I work my way through what I hope will be well over 100 K-Cup reviews, I’m not a big fan of black coffee. That said, I found the Green Mountain Breakfast Blend to be exceptionally smooth, and mild enough (it’s rated somewhere between mild and medium) that people like me, who don’t normally drink their coffee black, could probably make an exception.

I’ll stop short of saying that it’s a weak cup of coffee, but it’s a bit lighter than most of the K-Cups I’ve tried thus far. Others have suggested that Green Mountain Breakfast Blend may be at its best when your Keurig is on its smallest setting. Since I’m using the medium setting for all my reviews, I really can’t comment on that one way or the other.

The flavor subtle and well-balanced. It’s somewhat sweet, and the medium acidity (spot on description by the way) makes itself known without yanking on your cheeks or making you all kissy-faced. The finish is bitterness-free with just a hint of nut. It’s dry and doesn’t linger.

With Cream & Sugar (Splenda)

With a small amount cream and sugar the natural sweetness of the blend really shines. It’s similar to the best cup of coffee from that giant national chain. You know the one I’m talking about. Yeah, that’s right. The one where the words are all misspelled, and it takes 20 minutes to get a breakfast sandwich from the drive-through window.

Final Thoughts

The Green Mountain Breakfast Blend is very well behaved in your mouth. It doesn’t pulsate through your body either; it’s mild, so that’s not really in the design. It is an excellent choice for those mornings where coffee is a luxury; when you don’t need it to kick you in the seat of the pants to get you moving.

I’m sure it’s also an excellent everyday choice for people who prefer a mild, more subtle blend. I have no doubt the Green Mountain Breakfast Blend would be a huge hit with my wife. It’s coffee; plain and simple. It’s an excellent every day choice for people who are familiar with, and fans of the coffee from the chain stores. Unlike the occasional batch from those chains, I haven’t run into any Green Mountain K-Cups with an unpleasant turpeny flavor.

For hard core coffee drinkers who like (or need) an extra kick from their every day cup, the Green Mountain Breakfast Blend is more suitable as an occasional lazy weekend coffee instead of your work week wake up call.

Green Mountain Breakfast Blend K-Cups are available directly from the Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Website.

Because Green Mountain is about more than just K-Cups, each and every review I write about one of their coffee’s will feature an alternative offering (like a knit zebra) from the Green Mountain catalog. With that in mind…

If don’t have a Keurig Brewer, but want to try Green Mountain Breakfast Blend for yourself, you should consider the Green Mountain Signature Sampler. The sampler contains 3 of Green Mountain’s most popular coffees; including the Breakfast Blend I just covered, as well as Vermont Country Blend® and French Roast. According to Green Mountain, there’s probably no better way to experience how the roast itself shapes the flavors of Green Mountain coffees.
