Callaway Golf Announces I-MIX(tm) Customization System

From the ‘you knew that was coming’ department; Callaway Golf has announced their I-IMIX(tm) club customization system. The I-MIX ™ system allows the golfer to interchange a multitude of driver head and shaft combinations, without the need for a heat gun, shaft puller and a tube of epoxy.

What Callaway has done is bring the OptiFit experience from the Proshop to the golf cart. With over 1600 possible combinations it’s pretty clear that if you’ve got the budget for it, the I-MIX system has a ton of potential for guys, like me, who love to tinker with their clubs.

MSRP for I-MIX(tm) equipped systems is $435 for the FT-5 and $500 for the FT-I. Additional shafts will run you anywhere from $185 - $435. Initially I-MIX(tm) will be only be available with the afore mentioned clubheads.

While Callaway is first to market with an interchangeable shaft system, expect to see similar products from TaylorMade, Nickent, and Nike, and others in the very near future.

What remains to be seen is whether or not the technology catches on with consumers loathe to spend $700+ on an assortment of driver parts. In my house, that’s the kind of thing that could get me killed in my sleep. If the idea catches fire, however; I suspect it won’t be long before we see I-MIX(tm) like systems for fairway woods, hybrids, and even iron sets.
